This wine is from the Sudtirol in northern Italy.  While Pinot Nero is long established in the hills around Bolzano, Franz Haas has spent the past 3 decades investing heavily in his Pinot Noir vineyards to ensure he gets the best from this most finicky of varieties.  The wine shows how well he has succeeded.  It has the light ruby colour that makes this variety so alluring, lovely fresh perfumes and a firm yet supple fruit.  Serve slightly chilled, close your eyes and you could be sipping it in Venice.
