Ruthie's Table 4: Erin Lyall

For over 40 years, my life in food has been a story of adventure, excitement, education, and comfort. Erin Lyall is a conflict producer for CBS News. Her life in food has been a story of survival, danger, and hope. 

She's eaten with Ukrainian soldiers on the freezing front line, cooked with families in their homes in Gaza, and shared food on the battlefield in Syria and Iraq, with bullets sounding in the distance. 

From these experiences in the field, Erin has created Food Under Fire, a unique and beautiful food blog full of recipes, anecdotes, photographs, memories, and portraits of the people she's met on her journalistic travels. 

We met in the warmth and the safety of The River Cafe. Two women with different experiences but with the same values and a shared knowledge that food brings us together in war and in peace.
